Movie Monday : Hello Schoolgirl

“Hello Schoolgirl”

It sounds like the title of a porno, I know, but actually it’s quite the opposite. After putting off the movie for about a month (because I thought it’d turn out to be like “Sex is Zero”) I finally got around to booting it up in my laptop and found out that this is one romantic comedy that does not disappoint.

The story follows two couples, one is made up of a “thirty-something” office-worker and a high school senior and another couple made up of a younger guy in his early twenties and a woman in her late twenties. Both the couples meet under completely unremarkable circumstances and nothing about the movie’s plot stands out (besides the regular cliched twists) but it isn’t the plot that makes this movie special, it’s the actors and actresses and their portrayal of the characters that makes you fall in love with the film.

Korean film cliche’s and predictable outcomes aside, I really enjoyed watching the plot get to where it was inevitably headed to. The first part of the film won’t be packed with any surprises, but as you peel away the layers and see the characters interact in newer ways it really does draw you in albeit very slowly.

I’d recommend watching this movie on a nice snowy day when you’re in with your girlfriend/boyfriend and you’re just looking to watch a slow movie and feel good at the end. As predictably and slow as the film is, the sweetness and ending that you’ll see coming is still worth it.
